October Favourites

The tree right outside my window sums up October so well. The leaves are turning crisp, it’s an absolutely stunning shade of red fading into brown and it’s hanging on in there, despite the blustery winds and downpours. Once again Mother Nature has rewarded us with some beautiful scenes in this strangest, most challenging of years.

My number one favourite for October has to be my daily walks. When you have two big yellow dogs, staying in when it starts to get cold outside isn’t really an option. Wrapping up, booting up and getting on with it is the only way. From a morning stroll beside a railway line to a muddy tramp through our local beck, every day is a different view, a different shade of Autumn and another day of being grateful for being so close to nature. If you have the opportunity, I urge you to go outside this month and admire your surroundings. Even from inside a town or city centre, you’re bound to spot a tree or two showing a gorgeous hue.

As the evenings have started to get shorter, it’s been a post-dinner treat to curl up on the sofa and watch some TV. We’ve been spending our time between Denmark and Sweden and are completely hooked on The Bridge. Season 2 done, we’ve just started on season 3 and it’s already nail-biting, on the edge of your seat cliffhangers at the end of every episode. If it wasn’t for being absolutely dead on my feet at the end of each day I’d be tempted to binge-watch the whole thing!

My final favourite has been a new author discovery. Lucinda Riley’s series, The Seven Sisters, is fast becoming the only book on my reservation shelf! I raced my way through the first, quickly reserved the second and am impatiently waiting for it to be free from the virtual library. Seven books should keep me going for a while…

Oh and speaking of books, can we just take a moment to admire my new bookcase/TV stand that was handmade by us. I’m loving seeing all of my books again and it’s so much easier to grab my recipe books now. It’s love.
